Drug Name: ARTANE
Pronounced: AR-tane
Chemical names: Trihexyphenidyl hydrochloride
ARTANE Drug Use: Artane is used, along with other drugs, for the relief of certain symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. It is also used to control certain side effects induced by antipsychotic drugs such as Thorazine and Haldol. Artane works by correcting the chemical imbalance that causes Parkinson’s disease.
ARTANE Drug Usage Instructions: Take Artane exactly as prescribed by your doctor. You may take Artane either before or after meals, whichever you find more convenient.
ARTANE Storage Instructions: Store at room temperature. Do not allow the liquid form to freeze.
ARTANE Missed Dose: Never take 2 doses at the same time. If you miss a dose, take as soon as you remember. If it is within 2 hours or your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular dosage schedule.
ARTANE Side Effects: Common side effects may include: blurred vision, dry mouth, nausea, nervousness. Other potential side effects: agitation, bowel obstruction, confusion, constipation, delusions, difficulty urinating, dilated pupils, disturbed behavior, drowsiness, hallucinations, headache, pressure in the eye, rapid heartbeat, rash, vomiting, weakness.
Special Precautions with ARTANE: Do not take Artane if you are known to be sensitive to it or if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it or to other antiparkinson medications of this type. Artane is not a cure for Parkinson’s disease
