Drug Name: CEFTIN
Pronounced: SEF-tin
Chemical names: Cuefuroxime axetil
CEFTIN Drug Use: Ceftin is an antibiotic used in the treatment of certain infections. Especially those of the throat, skin, lungs, ears, sinuses and urinary tract. Can also be used in the early onset of Lyme disease.
CEFTIN Drug Usage Instructions: Ceftin comes both as tablets and liquid. The liquid should be kept in the refrigerator and discarded after 14 days. Both the tablets and liquid can be taken either on a full or empty stomach, but will work better when taking Ceftin with food. As with any antibiotic you must make sure to finish all your medication. If you stop when you start to feel better all the bacteria will not be destroyed. This will leave behind bacteria that will multiply and the new ones will be resistant to ceftin. So the next time you will have to take something stronger, and perhaps with more side effects.
CEFTIN Storage Instructions: Ceftin liquid should be kept in the refrigerator. The tablets of this drug can be kept at room temperate in a dry place out of direct sunlight.
CEFTIN Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it’s near to the time for your next dose, if this is the case skip the dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double up on doses.
CEFTIN Side Effects: More common effects are: diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.
Special Precautions with CEFTIN: Some less common side effects include: chest pain, chills, gas, headache, hives, indigestion, itch, loss of appetite and thirst. If any of these happen, or others, you should contact your doctor.
