Pronounced: co-JEN-tin
Chemical names: Benztropine mesylate

COGENTIN Drug Use: Cogentin is used to help relieve symptoms of Parkinson’s disease which is described as tremors, rigidity, and difficulties with balance and posture. Cogentin is an anticholinergic drug that controls spasms. Cogentin helps with the symptoms but is not a cure for Parkinson’s.

COGENTIN Drug Usage Instructions: Take exactly as prescribed. Cogentin works over a long period of time. That’s why it’s preferable to take at bedtime. This allows the patient enough time free from spasms that they can get a good night sleep. You may not feel the effects of Cogentin for 2 to 3 days from the start date.

COGENTIN Storage Instructions: Store Cogentin away from heat, light and moisture.

COGENTIN Missed Dose: If you miss a dose of Cogentin take it as soon as you remember, but if it’s within 2 hours of your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

COGENTIN Side Effects: Some expected side effects include: blurred vision, depression, dilated pupils, dry mouth, rapid heart beat , rash, vomiting and nausea, numbness and many others. If you experience any untoward effects talk to your doctor as soon as possible.

Special Precautions with COGENTIN: If you are allergic to Cogentin or any of it’s constituents you should not take it. Do not take if you have angle-closure glaucoma. Do not operate machinery while taking Cogentin. If you have any weakness or rapid heart beat tell the doctor immediately.
