Drug Name: COLESTID
Pronounced: Koh-LESS-tid
Chemical names: Colestipol hydrochloride
COLESTID Drug Use: Colestid is used, along with diet, to help lower high levels of cholesterolin the blood. It is available as orange granules, plain, and in tablet form.
COLESTID Drug Usage Instructions: Colestid granules can be mixed with milk, orange juice water or flavored drinks. You can also mix it in with food (cereal, soups etc) When taking granules with beverage make sure to use at least 3 ounces of liquid and mix completely. I taking the tablets you must swallow them whole and drink with plenty of water. Do not crush or cut the tablets.
COLESTID Storage Instructions: Store at room temperature.
COLESTID Missed Dose: If you miss a dose of Colestid take it as soon as you remember unless it’s almost time for the next dose. If that’s the case skip the missed dose and just continue with your regular dosing. Do not double up on doses.
COLESTID Side Effects: The most common side effects of this medication are: constipation, hemorrhoids, bloating, aches and pains in arms and legs, loose stool, vomiting, weakness, angina, and blood in the stool. There are many more side effects not mentioned here and if you have any effects contact your doctor immediately.
Special Precautions with COLESTID: If you are allergic to Colestid or any of its components do not take it. Make sure that you are not on a medication that increases cholesterol. Colestid may prevent the absorption of vitamin A D and K which if taken long term can lead to increased bleeding.
