Drug Name: COMBIVENT
Pronounced: COM-bi-vent
Chemical names: Ipratropium bromide/albuterol sulfate
COMBIVENT Drug Use: Combivent is used in people who have COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder) if they are already taking an airway opening medication and need to add another one. This product has 2 separate medications that act in different ways. The albuterol opens the airways and the ipratropium prevents the spasm and closing of the airways.
COMBIVENT Drug Usage Instructions: Combivent can be used up to four times a day
COMBIVENT Storage Instructions: usually it’s given as 2 puffs twice a day. To use an aerosol you need to shake the canister, start to breathe in, actuate the aerosol and breathe in and hold for up to 30 seconds. For the second dose you should wait at least 30 second between puffs or the second dose will be much smaller than the first.
COMBIVENT Missed Dose: Keep in cool dry place out of direct sunlight.
COMBIVENT Side Effects: If you miss a dose take as soon as you remember unless it’s near to the time for the next dose. If this is the case you need to skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double up on doses.
Special Precautions with COMBIVENT: Most common are: bronchitis, coughing, headache, shortness of breath, upper respiratory tract infection.
