Chemical names: Levofloxacin

LEVAQUIN Drug Use: Levaquin is an antibiotic and can cure a variety of bacterial infections for example sinus infections and pneumonia. It can also be prescribed for bronchitis, kidney infections, urinary tract infections, and skin infections. Levaquin is a member of a family of drugs called quinolones.

LEVAQUIN Drug Usage Instructions: Take as directed by your doctor. The most important thing to remember when taking Levaquin is that you shouldn’t take it within 2 hours of magnesium, aluminum, antacids like Maalox and Gaviscon. The reason for this is that the antacid binds to the antibiotic and the antibiotic will not work very week when it is bonded to aluminum or magnesium. Take plenty of fluid when taking Levaquin.

LEVAQUIN Storage Instructions: Store at room temperature in a sealed container away from direct sunlight.

LEVAQUIN Missed Dose: If you miss a dose take as soon as you remember except if it’s close to the time for the next dose, if it’s time for the next dose skip the previous dose and resume the regular schedule. Do not double up on doses.

LEVAQUIN Side Effects: More common side effects include: nausea, headache, constipation, diarrhea, difficulty sleeping. Less common are: abnormal vision, abdominal pain, angina, anemia, chest pain, coughing, irregular heart beat, dehydration, double vision, heart attack, back pain, bone inflammation, indigestion, hallucination, blood clots, agitation and aggressiveness. Just to name a few. If you have any of the above or any others contact your doctor as soon as possible.

Special Precautions with LEVAQUIN: Levaquin can cause dangerous allergic reactions as soon as you take the first dose. If this happens stop immediately and go to the hospital some of these signs include rash, hives, and skin reactions, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Also rapid heartbeat and skin reaction.
