Chemical names: Medroxyprogesterone acetate
PROVERA Drug Use: Provera is used to treat patients whose menstrual periods have stopped or a female hormone imbalance which causes the uterus to bleed abnormally. Some doctors prescribe Provera to treat endometriosis, menopausal symptoms, premenstrual tension, sexual aggressive behavior in men and sleep apnea (temporary failure to breath while sleeping).
PROVERA Drug Usage Instructions: Take exactly as prescribed by your Doctor. You may take with food or between meals.
PROVERA Storage Instructions: Store at room temperature.
PROVERA Missed Dose: Never take 2 doses at the same time. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular dosage schedule.
PROVERA Side Effects: Side effects may include: acne, anaphylaxis (life threatening allergic reaction), blood clot, breakthrough bleeding, breast tenderness or sudden flow of milk, cervical erosion or changes in secretions, depression, excessive growth of hair, fever, fluid retention, hair loss, headache, hives, insomnia, itching, lack of menstruation, menstrual flow changes, spotting, nausea, rash, skin discoloration, sleepiness, weight gain or loss, yellowed eyes and skin.
Special Precautions with PROVERA: Do not take while pregnant, avoid even if you suspect you are pregnant. Do not take if you have: cancer of the breast or genital organs, liver disease or a liver condition, a dead fetus still in the uterus, undiagnosed bleeding from the vagina.
