Drug Name: TAGAMET
Pronounced: TAG-ah-met
Chemical names: Cimetidine

TAGAMET Drug Use: Tagamet is prescribed for the relief and treatment of certain kinds of stomach and intestinal ulcers, and their related conditions. Tagamet may also be prescribed to treat acne, prevent stress induced ulcers, treat chronic hives, herpes virus infections (including shingles), abnormal hair growth in women, and over activity of the parathyroid gland. Tagamet HB is an over-the-counter version of the drug used to relieve heartburn, acid indigestion and sour stomach.

TAGAMET Drug Usage Instructions: Use Tagamet exactly as prescribed by your Doctor. You can take Tagamet with or without food. Do not take antacids within 1 to 2 hours of a dose of Tagamet. Avoid excessive amounts of caffeine while using Tagamet. Do not take the maximum daily dose of Tagamet HB for more than 2 weeks without consulting your doctor.

TAGAMET Storage Instructions: Store at room temperature away from light in a tightly closed container.

TAGAMET Missed Dose: Never take 2 doses at the same time. If you miss your dose of Tagamet, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular dosage schedule.

TAGAMET Side Effects: More common side effects may include: breast development in men, headache. Less common side effects may include: agitation, anxiety, confusion, depression, disorientation, and hallucinations-may appear in severely ill individuals who have been treated for one month or longer, however these reactions are not permanent and will generally clear up within 3 to 4 days of discontinuation of the drug. Rare side effects may include: allergic reactions, anemia, blood disorders, diarrhea, dizziness, fever, hair loss, impotence, inability to urinate, joint pain, kidney disorders, liver disorders, mild rash, muscle pain, pancreas inflammation, rapid heartbeat, skin inflammation or peeling, sleepiness, slow heartbeat.

Special Precautions with TAGAMET: Do not use Tagemet if you have ever had an allergic reaction to it. Ulcers may be more difficult to heal if you smoke cigarettes.
