Chemical names: Theophylline
UNIPHYL Drug Use: Uniphyl is used to treat the symptoms of asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. Theophylline helps to open the airways and relaxes the smooth muscle that circles the tubes of the blood vessels in the lungs.
UNIPHYL Drug Usage Instructions: Take it at exactly the same time each day. It is given as a sustained release formulation that normally is given twice a day when taking theodur you should not take large amounts of caffeine (coffee and tea).
UNIPHYL Storage Instructions: You should store at room temperature and keep away from direct sunlight in a sealed container.
UNIPHYL Missed Dose: If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember except if near to the time for your next dose, if this is the case skip the previous dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double up on the doses.
UNIPHYL Side Effects: Some of the more common side effects are: convulsions, headache, diarrhea, excitability, heart palpitations, hair loss, rash, seizures, and frequent urination. If you have any of these effects or any others contact your Doctor immediately.
Special Precautions with UNIPHYL: Do not use if you are allergic, or have an ulcer. If you are a smoker you may have to dose more than twice a day as your body will process the drug much quicker than normal persons. Also please remember that this medication is not for an acute attack of asthma.
